CULTIVATION
You can cultivate saffron almost any place in the world. The type of soil is significantly more crucial than the local climate in the area one wishes to cultivate it.
Cycle of vegetation:
- Planting: June through the middle of September
- Blooming: From the year of planting, during the month of October. Only when day high temperature is below 30C will saffron bulbs germinate, and only when day high temperature stays below 10C will they flower.
- Wintertime vegetative growth.
- May is when the leaves dry off.
Planting and Maintenance: Plant your saffron crocus bulbs three to five inches deep and at least six inches apart. One tablespoon of saffron spice is made from roughly fifty to sixty saffron flowers. Little, spherical bulbs with slightly pointed tops are planted with the points facing up. Plant the bulbs on their sides if you are unsure which side should be facing up; root action will guide the bulbs into the proper orientation. The saffron bed has to be in a sunny location, especially in the fall when it is blooming. Gathering usually starting in October (a little later in the first year), flowers bloom for a month. Location and soil Saffron corms prefer soil that drains properly. Avoiding heavy clay soil is imperative. A neutral clay-calcareous or silty soil (PH 6 to 8) is the best kind of ground.
Cautions:
- Avoid overwatering and water logging condition.
- Apply organic fertilizer in autumn season and immediately after flowering.

Faddal Saffron is originated at a place of Namlabal area in Pampore town, Pulwama district in Kashmir, India. We have our own cultivation team of reputable, knowledgeable farmers, where the finest saffron is gathered and selected by hand. This has made it possible for us to offer our clients the world’s finest and super quality Mongra saffron at reasonable costs.
Every year, farmers must harvest the saffron over a period of nearly two weeks. It’s a difficult and labor oriented process. They begin picking saffron flowers by hand early in the morning and work until just after daybreak. We wouldn’t have the privilege of easily enjoying this wonderful spice if it weren’t for the diligent labor of the knowledgeable growers. We thus see to it that their efforts are duly recognized.
The saffron crocus flower’s threads are used to make saffron spice. It is known as Red Gold in the market because of its Saffron flowers only have three threads in each. To manufacture one pound of saffron spice, diligent farmers must handpick over 1,77,000 saffron blossoms. Saffron is not just a crop, almost 30,000 farm operating families are dependent on Saffron cultivation.
When our saffron first enters our supply chain, it is tested in a lab to see if it meets our strict ISO 3236 standards for color, aroma, and flavor aspects.
